Finished Hunter x Hunter

Light spoilers for the Chimera Ant arc ahead.

My cousin recommended Hunter x Hunter after I told him I'd gotten into anime through One Piece, and I've finally finished it. I liked it overall, though each arc felt more disconnected from the last than I'm used to, which took some getting used to.

My favorites were the first arc, for the world-building, the challenges, and watching everyone grow, and the Chimera Ant arc. That one raised really interesting questions about how to treat the Chimera Ants as they integrate into society, and whether they should be able to become Hunters since they can use Nen. I also liked seeing Gon mature and push himself to his limits, even when it had dire consequences. Killua is my favorite character: he gets the most development and the most interesting arc of anyone in the series. I didn't like him at first since he seemed flippant about killing and hurting people, but watching him work through his trauma and grow into a genuinely "good" person was beautiful.

The ending felt abrupt and incomplete, and from what I can tell the manga keeps going past where the anime stops. Next up: Naruto, as I keep working through the classics everyone references.
